Lab-Grown vs Natural Diamonds in Bangalore: A Quick Guide

Compare diamond origin, price and documentation, then ask the Bangalore team about the actual piece and its written purchase terms.

Compare origin, documentation and the complete price

Both are real diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds generally cost less than comparable natural diamonds; natural diamonds appeal to buyers who value their geological origin. Compare the individual stone, complete jewellery price and written buyback terms before deciding.

Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Real?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have essentially the same chemical, physical and optical properties as natural diamonds. Their different growth characteristics allow specialist laboratories to identify their origin. Looking at a polished diamond alone is not a reliable way to distinguish them. GIA’s explanation

Natural diamonds form within the Earth. Lab-grown diamonds are produced using High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) or Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD). They are different from diamond lookalikes such as moissanite and cubic zirconia.

How Do Prices Compare?

Lab-grown diamonds generally have a lower purchase price than natural diamonds with comparable characteristics. However, a fixed savings percentage will not apply to every stone or jewellery design.

When comparing quotes in Bangalore, check the diamond’s shape, carat weight, quality details and grading laboratory. For finished jewellery, include the metal, making charges and applicable taxes.

A loose diamond price and a complete ring price are different comparisons. Ask for an itemised quote so you can see what you are paying for.

Which Diamond Report Should You Check?

Ask what documentation covers the diamond you are buying, particularly the centre stone in a solitaire ring.

IGI provides reports documenting diamond origin and quality characteristics. Finished-jewellery reports assess mounted stones as the setting permits. IGI’s report guide

GIA’s current assessment for qualifying colourless to near-colourless lab-grown diamonds uses Premium or Standard categories. Its format differs from IGI’s detailed 4Cs reports, so check the document rather than relying only on the laboratory’s name. GIA’s current assessment

What About Resale and Buyback?

Neither diamond origin guarantees a future cash offer. Resale to another buyer, buyback from the original seller and exchange towards new jewellery are different arrangements.

Ask whether an offer is calculated using the original diamond price or its current value, which deductions apply, and whether cash or exchange credit is available. Get the terms in writing.

Before You Buy

  • View the actual diamond and check its documentation.

  • Compare complete jewellery prices.

  • Read return, buyback and exchange conditions.

  • For hallmarked gold jewellery, verify the HUID through the BIS Care app. Gold hallmarking and diamond grading serve different purposes. BIS consumer guidance

Know what your report describes

Lab-Grown vs Natural Diamonds in Bangalore: A Quick Guide

Use the report and the selected jewellery specification together.

Check the report identity Open to explore

Read the issuing laboratory and report number. Use that laboratory’s own verification service where available and compare the result with the report supplied.

Match the diamond details Open to explore

Compare the shape, measurements, carat weight and stated grades. Ask whether the document covers a centre stone, multiple stones or the finished jewellery.

Keep gold details separate Open to explore

A diamond report and a gold hallmark describe different parts of a piece. Ask for the gold purity and hallmark details separately.

Illustrations explain what to compare; they do not represent a particular product or its dimensions.
