Gold Prices in Chennai: Understanding the Rate Before You Buy

Compare the same gold purity, unit and date. See how a market benchmark differs from a finished jewellery price or an old-gold exchange valuation.

Written by Glora Diamonds

Checking today’s gold price? First, make sure you’re comparing the same purity, unit and date.

A market gold price, a 22K jewellery rate and an old-gold exchange valuation are different figures. Here’s how to understand each before choosing your next piece at Glora Diamonds.

Gold Market Reference: INR per Gram

The third-party widget below displays an XAU market reference in Indian rupees per gram. It is not Glora’s 22K jewellery rate, a finished-jewellery quotation or an old-gold exchange valuation. Check the widget’s timestamp and the applicable quotation before using a figure.

Where to Check 22K, 18K and 14K Gold Rates

For Indian benchmark rates by purity, visit the India Bullion and Jewellers Association’s gold-rate page.

Check the displayed date and whether the figure is per gram or per 10 grams. IBJA publishes opening and closing rates on working days; its published rates exclude GST and making charges.

These are benchmark figures. Ask Glora which gold rate applies to your chosen jewellery and when the quotation was calculated.

Why Does the Jewellery Price Differ?

The gold rate is only one component of a finished piece.

Your quote may include:

  • Gold: net gold weight and the rate for its purity.

  • Diamonds or other stones: their specifications and price.

  • Making charges: the work involved in creating the piece.

  • Other disclosed charges and applicable taxes.

Ask for an itemised quote. For diamond jewellery, distinguish the net gold weight from the gross weight that includes stones.

Why Do Gold Prices Change?

Gold prices respond to several interacting factors, including currency movements, interest rates, investment demand, economic uncertainty and supply.

Changes in the rupee–dollar exchange rate can also affect the Indian gold price. Local duties, taxes and retail pricing influence what you ultimately pay.

Discussing an old-gold exchange

Ask how your old gold will be assessed and which deductions apply before using its value towards a new piece.

Contact Glora Diamonds to ask about the current assessment method and terms.

Make two jewellery quotes comparable

Gold Prices in Chennai: Understanding the Rate Before You Buy

Use the same specification and a current written quote.

Match the diamond specification Open to explore

Compare diamond origin, shape, measurements, carat weight, stated grades and report coverage. Check centre-stone weight separately from total diamond weight.

Match the finished jewellery Open to explore

Compare the gold purity, colour, metal weight and setting. A loose-diamond price and a finished-jewellery price describe different purchases.

Confirm the current total Open to explore

Ask what the quoted total includes and how long it is valid. Keep the product or design reference and selected options with the quote.

Illustrations explain what to compare; they do not represent a particular product or its dimensions.
